Nearly 90 percent of fire-related firefighter injuries happen when a firefighter's radio signal is blocked by walls, tunnels or trees. The US Department of Homeland Security's Science and Technology division has three projects in the works to cut down on these injuries, the GLANSER tracking device, the WISPER signal router, and the PHASER vital signs monitor. The GLANSER is a portable tracking device that can track up to 500 firefighters simultaneously in a 50-story building. The PHASER monitors a firefighter's pulse, body temperature and blood pressure. The GLANSER and PHASER both relay information over a 900-MHz frequency. When a firefighter is out of radio range, the WISPER system is activated. It drops tiny disposable fire-resistant routers along the firefighter's path that track the...

Space age technology has provided this newest fire extinguishing development. As a new innovation in fire extinguishing technology it is green sensitive, non toxic, non-corrosive and leaves no residue after use! The near mishap on the International Space Station in 1997 initiated the development of this new fire fighting technology which is available now for home use in the JE Series Portable Fire Extinguishers. With its push button start, this unique nano technology will immeadiately extinguish small fires at a safe distance. Clean up, if any, is easy with a damp cloth. Fixed systems are also available for engine rooms, electrical consoles and computer rooms. Compared with conventional pressurised based extinguishers, the JE Series enjoys numerous advantages such as compact size, no annua...
SAVANNAH, Ga. — A new technology for SCBA masks gives firefighters "bionic" vision. Tanagram's Augmented Reality mask helps firefighters "see" even in dark, smoky conditions, according to a CNN "Start Small, Think Big" report. The video below shows how the technology provides firefighters with data about their surroundings, including oxygen levels, temperatures, possible contaminants, exit paths, and even video of the other members in their team. "Our job was really to kind of give [firefighters] back their senses," inventor Joseph Juhnke says in the video. "All they have to do is put [the mask] on." follow me on twitter :) @firefighter6868

There is heightened concern in our public schools for providing safe and secure environments for students, staff, and visitors to school campuses. School security has become an increasing priority for most schools. School security technology is changing, and thus requires robust technology infrastructure to support it. In this thirty minute webinar, participants will understand the role of security technology; become aware of some of the most commonly used and effective security technologies; learn about recent innovations and improvements in school security technologies; and understand the need for robust wired and wireless technology infrastructure to support security technology initiatives.
Lakeland College Emergency Training Centre (ETC) is renowned among the best firefighter training facilities in North America. Emergency Services Technology (EST) is Lakeland's most comprehensive program providing firefighting (NFPA) and medical (EMT) training. Firefighters are in the front lines of responding to a majority of of non fire related call outs. The EST program equips our graduates with skill sets suited for the increase of integrated fire halls. All EST students complete their training with a fire hall practicum period. We also offer an intensive 12 week Firefighter Training program that exceeds NFPA 1001 requirements. Students gain additional credentials and train in municipal, industrial, dangerous goods response and wild land fires. For more information go to: http://w...
